It’s that time of year again: the time that we discover Germany’s place in various world ranking studies.
This week marked the release of the 2019 US News & World Report Best Countries rankings – and Germany came in fourth! The study ranks countries based on a number of factors, but Germany scored particularly high in the categories of entrepreneurship, power and quality of life. When looking at individual categories, Germany ranks second in the world for entrepreneurship (following Japan), fourth in education and sixth in the category “forward thinking.”
Overall, Germany received 9.6 out of 10 points, following Switzerland (10), Japan (9.8) and Canada (9.7).
Meanwhile, Bloomberg released its 2019 Innovation Index – and Germany ranked as the world’s second most innovative economy, following South Korea. Germany received particularly high scores in the categories “productivity” and “tertiary efficiency”. Which certainly holds up the stereotype of “German efficiency”! Germany’s ranking can be largely attributed to the value provided by industrial giants such as Volkswagen AG, Robert Bosch GmbH and Daimler AG, Bloomberg reports.
So what categories did Germany score lowest in? Well, in the US News study, Germany came in 57th place in the category of “adventure”! While you may find Germany a great place to live and grow a business, you’ll want to head over to Brazil or Thailand to find the most exotic adventures. But from a personal viewpoint: Germany still has lots of adventures to be found, from Alpine climbing to exploration of medieval castles! What are your thoughts?
