GERMANY FOR AMERICANS

Dear Readers,

German Vice Chancellor Robert Habeck visited Washington, DC last week alongside France's Finance Minister Bruno Le Maire. The two ministers held talks on the US Inflation Reduction Act. They had meetings at the State Department, Commerce Department, Treasury Department and White House. The ministers’ US visit was also aimed at promoting cooperation on green tech. “We can build a green bridge across the Atlantic and create joint green markets,” Habeck said.

Meanwhile, Germany is providing support to victims of the deadly earthquake in Turkey and Syria. Germany has sent search and rescue teams, medical personnel, and hundreds of tons of aid supplies. The German government also plans to ease visa entry restrictions for earthquake survivors with close family in Germany. To date, the total value of German relief material for the earthquake region stands at 6.9 million euros for Turkey and 1.5 million euros for Syria.

And here in Washington, German Ambassador Emily Haber welcomed governors from all corners of the US to her residence on Friday – a gathering that was part of the National Governors’ Association winter meetings. “Tonight is one of the highlights of my tenure in Washington,” she said. “The Governors are key to the strong relationship between Germany and the US.”

Yours,

The "Germany for Americans" team
